Caregivers speak out against wage theft
At a press conference this morning, two live-in-caregivers spoke out about how they are forced to take court action against their former employers to recover over $350,000 in unpaid wages and wrongful dismissal. 
 
Lillian and Vivian's story of fighting back against wage theft was covered on the front page of the Toronto Star, front page of Metro News and also on CBC radio.  Read the Toronto Star story, as well as other coverage on our website.
 
Lillian and Vivian spoke about their experience of no protection on the job, working long hours and how they have been forced to do the government's job of enforcement.   Lillian and Vivian encouraged more workers to take action against wage theft and demanded changes from the Ministry of Labour to actively enforce employment standards.
 

Migrant Workers come together
The launching of a new alliance of migrant workers and allies, the Migrant Workers' Alliance for Change (MWAC), was also covered in today's Toronto Star and Metro news.  Read about the stories of migrant workers fighting for protection and permanent status here.

Wage theft campaign gains momentum
On May 12^th, WAC publicly successfully launched our Stop Wage Theft campaign with the release of our new report Unpaid Wages, Unprotected Workers which showed that 1 in 3 workers surveyed had experienced wage theft along with recommendations for action.
 
Although the Minister of Labour has acknowledged the Ministry of Labour needs to do more to address wage theft, the Workers' Action Centre is still waiting to hear what action the Ministry of Labour will take.
