On the Labour Day long weekend, CUPE members across Ontario will march together to show pride in their union and to celebrate the historic gains we have made for workers in the province.

The public services our communities rely on are being attacked by the Liberals and Conservatives.

Together, we can send a strong message to Queen’s Park and Ottawa that Ontarians reject the austerity agenda and demand a better Ontario.

“We will march together and we will stand up for the people of this province,” said CUPE Ontario Secretary-Treasurer, Candace Rennick. “Public-sector workers did not create the deficit. Average workers did not create the deficit. Corporate tax cuts and policies benefiting highly profitable corporations and banks created the problem. It’s time they contributed to the solution, instead of taking more and more from average Ontarians.”

Labour Day parades, picnics and barbeques will take place in dozens of communities across the province. In Toronto, CUPE Ontario will lead thousands of workers in the province’s largest Labour Day parade. “This year we’ll be right up front. Our message will be seen and heard by everyone,” said Rennick.

*When we’re done the march You can also get on an NDP bus on Labour Day (Monday, September 3) to help canvass.  Busses on labour day will be leaving from Queen and Dufferin at 11am and taking you to the by-election campaign office.  After an afternoon of helping get our message out to the voters, the busses will be returning to Queen’s Park by 7:30pm.
