Pensions
The Pensions Committee works for a fair and equitable pension for all CUPE employees, including retirees.
Pensions are an important issue for CUPE members, and the committee works to ensure that the organizations that control members' funds, such as the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Savings Plan (OMERS) is run in the interest of members and not employers.
This issue has recently become a struggle to prevent members' retirement savings from being invested in corporations that are laying off workers. The committee works to promote real workers' control over their own money through joint trusteeship.
