Racial Justice/Anti-Racism
The Rainbow Committee was created in 1995. It takes its name from the rainbow, which represents the diversity we can only truly honour when we are free of racism.
Its mandate consists of fighting racism, raising awareness of diversity issues and fostering advancement and opportunity for racialized members within CUPE. It also functions as a liaison with the CUPE National Rainbow Committee.
The committee consists of five elected positions that are elected at the Ontario Human Rights Conference by the Rainbow Caucus and a chair that is appointed from the Ontario Division executive board.
